SPEAKER OF THE WEEK
The Friends Forever International Partners Program Belfast Women Professional Leadership members were our guests this week.
In 2018, FFI began to expand its program offerings beyond youth, to work with the adult community leaders from around the world.
The Black Mountain Voices team intersects with its programs focused on women’s empowerment and shared existence.
The group of 10 women came to the US to discuss their life experiences and their quest to promote peace between the Protestants and Catholics in Ireland.
The visit to the 911 Museum in New York was extremely emotional and powerful to the women. The memorabilia at the museum was a great reminder of the bombings and sufferings most of them have experienced in their homeland and still exist today.
Donna and Rosaleen were the spokespersons of the group, and each of them told their personal story of accomplishments and their purpose in joining the team.
Donna overcame street shootings and bombings, and has been working with the community since she was 15. Rosaleen met Donna at a community event and has wanted to continue the work with the youth in the community.
The two biggest problems with the community are mental health and drugs. Their primary focus is to help their community to process the ongoing violence and promote peace within the community.
