This week at Rotary...

This week at Rotary we welcomed President Jen Close who led her first meeting. She started the meeting with a strong bell ringing. Our new club president gave outgoing president Claire Kallelis several awards and, very importantly, her past president gavel. Jen also spent time advertising two upcoming events, the Fete en Blanc and the Great Salem Maritime Cardboard Boat Regatta. See details below. Signups were passed around for both events.

ALEXANDER FALK

Former District Governor Alexander Falk presented Claire Kallelis with an award for completing changes that will encourage increased membership and retention at the Salem Rotary. Great work, Claire!!

A message from RI President Gordon McInally

Even as we face new and serious challenges, Rotary takes care of its members and those we serve, works to build lasting peace, and embeds belonging and inclusion in everything we do. That is why I am asking everyone in Rotary to Create Hope in the World.

You can start by telling people about what Rotary means to you. Use these graphics on your favorite social media platform and add text or a video about your Rotary experience to share why you’re proud to be a Rotary member.

ROTARIAN NEWS

  • .Tim Clarke had an adventure! He and Alice navigated a boat from Florida to their home port in Danvers. On the last day, they were told that the railroad bridge was closed. Unfortunately he was later diagnosed with a semidetached retina.
  • Joe Amico went on a required leave that absolutely was not a vacation for two weeks. He traveled to Wisconsin as he normally does and he coordinated speakers at his usual conference. He spent time with family and went to the 4th of July in Minneapolis
  • Liz Bradt will be marching in the Negro Election Day Parade and invited others to attend. She will be off on her world travels soon as well.
  • Joanne Scott had a great time at a family birthday party. This week she will be having her 43rd wedding anniversary
  • Randy Burba and his family celebrated his mother's 80th birthday with a beach cookout. He will be celebrating his 28th wedding anniversary soon.
  • Rinus Oosthoek  celebrated a wedding in Vermont and caught his first lobster of the season. He did not share any with us.
  • Bruce Whear ran away to Manhattan to stay with his son. they saw a musical and a live comedy show. He and Heidi are having their pH balance party later this month. Let him know if you plan on attending.
  • Jason Consalvo had some inappropriate jokes unfit for the pages of the Spoke. The Consalvo family went to the Larcum Theater to see Benny and the Jets show. He went to see Ed Sheeran as well and had a blast. Fun fact- Grammy Award winning Little Big Town opened up for him, but Jon Mayer had opened the night before.
  • Gerrit Bradley briefly gave a bird report, at one point seeing a big bird (a bald eagle). Willa's girlfriend made a surprise visit for the 4th of July celebrations, which apparently are quite the event. He does have some taping advice for those looking to launch fireworks. Live Free or Die in New Hampshire indeed.
  • Kristen Armstrong reported a loud sound from outside of her window at 3 am and realized it potentially came from some less-than-legal plumbing. Thankfully Mike McLaughlin was not in attendance this week! She did note that there were workers outside of her home to address the problem the next morning. She also screamed at her husband to wake him up, which he surely will not be forgetting anytime soon.
