THIS WEEK AT ROTARY...
Board and committee meetings
The Board of Directors met this week during Rotary followed by Committee Meetings. During Rotary, the Board gave several updates to the club.

Funds Allocation submitted donations to LEAP and the Salem Little League which were both approved by the board. The Salem Little League donation once again allows the Salem Rotary to sponsor a team and have signage at Forest River Park. The donation to LEAP for Education was for their Great Expectations Fundraiser. Additionally a $100 donation was made in the memory of Nelson Dion who recently passed away.

According to the Scholarship Committee, the application link is up on the website and students can now apply online.

The Auction and Fundraising Committee is gearing up for the auction and getting ready to send requests for items.

A reminder from the Rotary Foundation that RI's president wants all clubs to be 100 percent clubs. So far, only 5 donations have been made, so the Salem Rotary is a good ways away from reaching that goal. The Polar Plunge is a great opportunity, and judging from the signup sheets, it looks like many Salem Rotarians will be taking advantage of it.

The Speaker Committee gave an update on our next round of speakers.

Joe Amico gave the club several updates as well. The club received two thank you cards. One was from the North Shore Education Consortium thanking us for our donation. The other was from Citizens Inn also thanking us for the donation and reminding us about the upcoming Gala and Auction. See the details in "Yours in Service".

The Amazing Shake is coming up on March 8. Coincidentally it is also the day that the principal of the Bates School will be in attendance at Rotary as part of the Superintendent's guest rotation. Rotary members can sign up to judge the event using the link below! It is 8 am - 10 am on March 8.

Also, committees will not be meeting again during Rotary until May as DEI will be having an event on March 15 and the April meeting is set aside for a Membership Committee discussion. Finally, normal billing will resume on March 1.

Last, but certainly not least, Francesca Little has become a permanent member. Congratulations!

CLUB AnnouncementS

Hopefully you have sold your Calendars! Gerrit Bradley asked for members to bring their Calendar stubs back along with ONE CHECK made out to the Rotary Club of Salem. Stubs and checks can also be given to Rich Eisner. Bill Henning is hoping to bill Rotarians who have not yet paid very soon!

In case you missed it, normal billing will begin on March 1.

The four way test

Mark Shaw presented his thoughts on the Four Way Test this week. He focused on the questions of "Is it Fair to All Concerned? and "Is it Beneficial to All Concerned?" He began by mentioning a Rotary International Conference he attended. One of the main topics was how to get food and supplies to people affected by the conflict in Bosnia. The President of Rotary at the time rented a plane to ensure the supplies made it to the people that needed them. Another topic at the conference was the first vaccine plus for polio. The conference also highlighted clean water projects. All are examples of how these two questions relate to the good work that Rotary does. Next week the presenter will be Rob Lutts.

Calendar Winner
Jodie Cennami sold by Diane Pabich.
The pot crossed $1000 and is at $1,161! Viktoria Talebian and Rob Lutts pulled cards this week and there were no winners!

Guests and Visiting Rotarians

None. Not even Jack.

YOURS IN SERVICE

There are a couple of upcoming service opportunities of sorts coming up. First is the Polar Plunge which will be taking place in April. We fully expect more plungers than usual due to the later plunging date. Get yourself ready or prepare your checkbook!

Rotary was able to negotiate four tickets to the Citizens Inn Gala and Auction which will be taking place on March 11 at Danversport. Please let Jason Consalvo or Bill Henning know if you are interested by February 28. Two tickets remain (maybe).

As mentioned earlier, the Amazing Shake competition at the Bates School is coming up on March 8. Feel free to sign up to judge the event if you are interested. Use the link above!

Finally, the next Lifebridge dinner is coming up on March 9. The Community Service Committee was busy this week selecting someone to coordinate the efforts. Sign up if you are interested. Meal is TBD.

ROTARIAN NEWS

Jason Consalvo is officially an old man after giving his "kids these days" update on how wildly interested kids are in who likes who. Apparently Graham received a note from a girl referring to him as her sunshine. We should all be so lucky!

Jane Stirgwolt was excited to report that Hazel did get an internship with a child advocacy group. This after a less successful interview with the Department of Justice. Perhaps the shirt Hazel wore (a gift from mom!!) was her good luck charm!

Mike McLaughlin reported the sad news of the passing of Bob Barnard, an active member of the Salem Rotary. Bob had been living in lovely Naples, Florida.

Viktoria Talebian is fostering a beautiful four month old lab mix named Sugar. How sweet!

Kristen Armstrong kept with the pooch theme. She was excited that, for the first time, her family's new adopted dog came right back in the house after handling its business instead of going off on its own.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.

We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.

In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
