Joe Amico officiated a wedding over the weekend. He said Dick Lutz at 94 years young really knows how to cut up a rug!
Kara McLaughlin is extremely proud of her son and his acceptance into to Harvard. She escorted him to Harvard last Sunday.
Jason Silva decided to take advantage of the beautiful sunny weather on Sunday to mow the lawn and do some overdue landscaping around his house, but much to his surprise, his wife was very displeased with his accomplishments and was amazed that he could leave her inside alone to care for the two children. Moral of the story never start a task without getting permission!
John Fisher cruised Maine for 12 days without every spending a night on the boat. He also stated that he just finished his first round of chemo while celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary.
Bruce Whear raced with a fellow Rotarian, Jed Smith, and they came in 2nd place.
Doc Eisner stated, no Harvard for his son, but you can visit him at his new place of employment, Petroleum Distribution.
Leanne Schild stated Plummer Home is hosting a Coffee Connection at 7:30 on Thursday August 23,2018 and then follow up with an open house of the Plummer Home starting at 9am.
Adria Leach stated Salem State College is celebrating SSA First Year Day of Service, August 31, 2018.
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS
On Friday, Aug 31st, 8-9am, 3-4 members of Rotaract and 2-3 Rotary members will be on hand to discuss Rotary’s mission at a service-focused event for new Salem State students. The event will be held in the lobby of the Ellison Campus Center. At the request of Rinus, several members volunteered to set up and man our table.
The Speaker Committee has been hard at work and is glad to announce that State Rep. Paul Tucker will speak on Sep. 4th in a joint meeting with Salem Chamber, and on Sep. 18th, Tim Clarke will present on his epic boating adventure.
On Wednesday September 5th, we will be serving food at Lifebridge. We will serve on 4 dates this year: 9/5/18, 11/7/18, 3/6/19 and 6/5/19. We are looking for a leader/person to take charge of the first date. Bruce explained the role of the dinner captain. Rotaract said they will help us serve as well.
We will be doing the backpack program again this year. The Club has officially applied for a District grant for the program.
The Club is exploring the possibility of an Elderact Club at the Senior Center.
Jason Consalvo has initiated contact for the Booktrust program.
