Carolyn Shapiro began her first meeting as President of the Salem Rotary promptly at 12:15. She reviewed the highlights of the previous week's Garden Party and thanked everyone for a wonderful evening. She saved her kindest words for outgoing President Jen Close who did an amazing job as President. Jen even gave Carolyn a scepter as a gift. With July being the unofficial "birthday month" for Rotary, Carolyn reminded everyone that we can all pay into the Birthday Fund in advance. This is also true of Every Rotarian Every Year. We are sure that Jason Consalvo would remind us that this is also true for Happy Dollars, which he prepays annually. Carolyn congratulated our two most recent recipients of Paul Harris Fellow Awards, Joe Amico and Bob Anthony.
Carolyn spent time going over her goals as President and how they align with the goals set forth by Rotary International. She broke them into four categories; Enhancing Participant Engagement, Increasing Our Impact, Expanding Our Reach, and Increasing Our Ability to Adapt.
Enhance Participant Engagement
Stronger publicity around the events taking place
Visitations with other area clubs
Use of Official Rotary Promotional Tools
Increase Our Impact
Annual Fund contributions of at least $1,000
At least six service projects
Expand Our Reach
Increase Club Membership
New Member Sponsorship
Media stories about club projects
Increase Our Ability to Adapt
Update website and social media
Review and consider updating club by-laws
Carolyn had several important scheduling items to address. First, we will be have a very limited speaker series during the summer with time set aside to get committees up and running. Speaking of which, she distributed final drafts of committee assignments. If you would like any changes made or would like to join a committee, let Carolyn know as soon as possible. Dutch Drinks will resume in September on the first Friday of the month. Put September 6 in your calendars now! We will also be catching up on Classification Speeches as we have had several new members join with hopefully more on the way. We will maintain our schedule of having evening meetings on the fourth Tuesday of the week with a Board of Directors meeting beforehand.
We did recieve thank you notes from two scholarship recipients. Kiera Morgan has been unable to stop by the Salem Rotary in person but did send us a thank you as she has been busy with orientation. She has chosen to go into engineering. Will Napierkowski also sent a thank you. There are several Salem Rotary t-shirts available. Contact Carolyn if you need one still.

Here's your reminder for the monthly Simply Irresistible Monday Membership Meetup!
Monday – July 8, 7:30 pm. July's topic: Building Partnerships for Service.
It would be wonderful if every club had someone attending. The session is suitable for all leaders and aspiring leaders with an interest in change.
Matt Ingram unleashed his inner Consalvo and has paid his entire year of Happy Dollars. He gave an update on Birthday Fund which did pretty well last year.
Randy Burba celebrated the annual family reunion in Martha's Vineyard where they rented houses. The kids were back, so he has minimal money for Happy Dollars.
Joanne Scott had a celebratory week. Today is her birthday and she recently celebrated her 44th wedding anniversary. Congratulations!
Liz Bradt will walk with Negro Election Day Parade on July 20 and invited others to march. It will begin at 11:30 at Shetland Park and will end at the Willows. Rumor has it that there will be a presidential candidate in attendance. Bring water if you march. You can find more information here.
Jason Lang just got back from Canada where he and Heather celebrated the 4th of July because their dog is scared of fireworks. This time they went to Quebec City. He carried dog up 418 steps instead of taking the gondola.
Carolyn Shapiro went to the Cape with her husband and two kitties. Bill Golden was there as well. There was a competition at their two popup locations to see who could sell the most items, which Carolyn won and Bill lost.
