This week at Salem Rotary, we had a surprise guest in old friend Alexander Falk from the Marblehead Rotary Club. He stopped by with his Cybertruck and gave us a quick rundown on what exactly a Cybertruck is. He placed his order in 2019 within two days of the announcement from Tesla that the company would begin producing a truck to replace his F-150 Raptor. Alexander was able to get a vanity plate, which you can see in the photos below. The Cybertruck is more than a unique shape. The entire exoskeleton is stainless steel. The vehicle shifts in an innovative way. It will not rust and cannot get dinged. Owners can weld things on it, so expect modifications to become a thing in the future. The electric vehicle charges in about 20-25 minutes and had advanced wiring. the steer by wire feature allows for rear wheel turning. It can go from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds, and faster version is available. It's funky and he loves driving it. It can automatically changed suspension based on driving conditions.
Tyler Hains just got back from Poland where his wife was on her teaching Fulbright. The family had been there since February. They traveled all over Poland and neighboring countries for Tyler's wife to give talks. It was a great time and experience. Tyler's favorite part was being able to live somewhere and having the chance to live like a local. the host university showed them around and helped them get acclimated to life in Poland. Tyler found that Ukranian refugees had settled down or moved on to other places. Unfortunately he did not pick up Polish, and he never found a barber either.
Alexander Falk joined us as did potential future Salem Rotarian Yami Cruz.
ROTARY NEWS
Let's start the new Rotary year with a quick July fundraiser for the Annual Fund SHARE
We have 2 tickets each for the following 8 Red Sox games at Fenway Park to give away to raise money for our Rotary Foundation:
August 9/10/11 Houston Astros vs Boston Red Sox
August 23/24/25 Arizona Diamondbacks vs Boston Red Sox
August 27/28 Toronto Blue Jays vs Boston Red Sox
The seats are located in row 1 of the Aura Club (formerly Home Plate Pavilion Club) and have some of the best views in the ballpark (see photo on the left). The face value of these tickets is $235 per seat.
To participate in this fundraiser you need to submit a bid in which you commit to donate at least $400 to the Annual Fund SHARE (for both tickets together). The higher your bid, the more likely you are going to get the tickets. Please reach out to DRFC Alexander Falk via email before July 31 with a list of your preferred dates and your bid commitment.
District Governor Tom is pleased to announce that we have secured the sponsorship for the next Rotaplast Mission to Cebu in the Philippines. We will be departing on March 8, 2025, and returning on March 23, 2025. Rotaplast is a Rotary adjacent organization, started and supported by Rotarians worldwide. Their mission is to alleviate the suffering of children with facial deformities in low-income countries through free corrective plastic surgeries (cleft lip and palate). This is a great opportunity for clubs to be part of an international service mission. We hope that all clubs will contribute to raising our goal of $85K. We also need volunteers to come with us. Contact PDG Terry Curran at TerryCurran7930@gmail.com or call at 617-501-3521 if you are interested or have any questions.
