FINES AND RECOGNITIONS
 
Liz Bradt announced that she was glad to be back from her recent heart surgery and was welcomed with a warm applause.
 
Jason Consalvo attended the Patriots first pre-season game.
 
Bruce Whear’s improvisation troupe played to a sold out crowd at Marblehead Little Theatre.
 
Viktoria Talebian enjoyed a day off spent kayaking.
 
Sue O’Brien’s son was married on August 3rd.
 
Kara McLaughlin invited members to attend an event at the House of the Seven Gables to witness 35 people taking the oath of citizenship.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS
 
Jason  Consalvo presented Leslie Levesque with her temporary new member badge and autograph book.
 
President Rinus will be in the Netherlands for the next two weeks and Marie and Adria will lead the meetings.
 
Rinus described his visit, along with Tim, Jason, and Joe to the Career Technical Services Dept. at Salem High School where he would like to make a stronger connection.
 
On Friday, Aug 31st, 8-9am, 3-4 members of Rotaract and 2-3 Rotary members will be on hand to discuss Rotary’s mission at a service-focused event for new Salem State students.  The event will be held in the lobby of the Ellison Campus Center.  At the request of Rinus, several members volunteered to set up and man our table.
 
The Speaker Committee has been hard at work and is glad to announce that State Rep. Paul Tucker will speak on Sep. 4th in a joint meeting with Salem Chamber, and on Sep. 18th, Tim Clarke will present on his epic boating adventure. 
Rinus encouraged members to take the survey sent out by the Speaker Committee.
 
On Wednesday September 5th, we will be serving food at Lifebridge.  We will serve on 4 dates this year:  9/5/18, 11/7/18, 3/6/19 and 6/5/19.  We are looking for a leader/person to take charge of the first date.  Bruce explained the role of the dinner captain.  Rotaract said they will help us serve as well.
 
We will be doing the backpack program again this year.  The Club has officially applied for a District grant for the program.
 
The Club is exploring the possibility of an Elderact Club at the Senior Center.
 
Jason Consalvo has initiated contact for the Booktrust program.
