This week at rotary...

Jen Close
Evening Meeting

This week at Rotary, we had a wonderful evening meeting at the historic Hawthorne Hotel. Jen Close got things started with the opening bell and the Pledge of Allegiance to help prepare for the transition to the next Rotary year. We had a specialty drink, an Aperol Spritz, served this week. Most of the time was spent networking and socializing.

This Week in Baseball:

Mike McLaughlin won a bottle of wine due to his birthdate. Many Rotarians took part in the recent shelf stocking at the Salem Pantry.

From the Committees:

Auction Committee: Last week was an amazing auction. About $34,000 was netted for scholarships.

Scholarship Committee: they interviewed 14 candidates earlier on Tuesday. It was an amazing afternoon and several tears may or may not have been shed.

Service Project Committee: The beautification Project for the Hosta Gardens was last weekend. It was a great team effort with many Rotarians contributing. The plantings look amazing! Bob Anthony has earned the nickname "Compost Boy" because, as Bruce Whear says, he gives a crap.

As the Rotary World Turns...

This month, Zone Director Drew Kessler sent a message to all to focus on enhancing participant experience - or how to make our members (as well as future members and anyone with whom we come in contact) come back wanting more!

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.

We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.

Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.

We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.

In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
