ANNOUNCEMENTS AND CLUB BUSINESS
 
There will be  a RYLA event on May 10-12. Three students from Salem will participate in the RYLA awards program.
 
Next week, there will be a board meeting, luncheon, and packaging and committee meetings.  This will be the last packaging event for the kids at the Bentley School.  We will also be collecting change for the Phoenix School.
 
The book trust will be held on May 16th at the Horace Mann School.
 
The last Dutch Drinks of the year will be held on May 17th at Stella's Restaurant and Wine Bar.

  • Senator Lovely's Leadership Positions
    • Assistant Majority Leader
    • Chair of Rules (All non-spending bills go through Rules, approx 4K of the 6K total bills)
    • Vice Chair of Education (with Rep Tucker)
    • Vice Chair of Personnel and Administration
  • FY20 Budget
    • Governor and House have completed their budget
    • Senate budget draft will be released today (May 7)
    • Senators will introduce approximately 1,400 amendments
    • Senate budget will likely be completed by Memorial Day weekend
  • Senator Lovely's Priorities
    • HomeWorks: provides for summer camp and afterschool programming for youth in homeless housing and hotels
    • SHIELD: legislation to address child sexual abuse prevention
    • a bill to provide for safe drinking water in all MA schools
    • a bill to address the discrepancies in how cider businesses are taxed based on the ABV (alcohol by volume)
  • Senate Priorities
    • Education -- fixing the foundation budget (most aggressive plans could require upwards of $1B in new revenue)
    • Housing
    • Healthcare Cost Containment
    • Transportation
