This week was our annual event with the Beverly Rotary Club to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving football game between Salem High School and Beverly High School. This year's meeting was hosted by Beverly at Danversport.
Our guest list this year was extensive, including Representative Paul Tucker, Superintendent Steve Zrike, Principle Glenn Burns, Athletic Director Scott Connolly, Football Coach Matt Bouchard, Student Activities Director Lisa Mansfield, Football and Cheering Captains, Mike Ready, Jereall Del Valle, Mackenzie Fedele and Julia Sumner, Booster Present Melanie Bouchard, and of course Mayor Kim Driscoll!
The event began with a speech by Beverly Chaplin Sarah McBurnie Liporto giving thanks. This was followed by speeches from the mayors from both cities, Kim Driscoll of Salem and Mike Cahill of Beverly. Mayor Driscoll wished both teams the best of luck along with a congratulations on their respective seasons. She was thankful to be in person this year. She also noted that the players involved in the game would remember the relationships with teammates more than the score of the game. Mayor Cahill gave thanks to both Rotary clubs for all that we do in our communities. He was excited to see both teams compete and do the best that they could do.
The next speakers were the head coaches from both programs. Coach Matt Bouchard of Salem spoke first. He was excited about the upcoming game and gave thanks to Rotary, especially in promoting a community like Salem. He also thanked elected officials for their support of education and athletics, as well as a special thanks to the Salem booster club/his wife. Coach Jeff Hutton of Beverly conceded the best Rotary speech to Coach Bouchard. He reviewed his time coaching in this game and declared that each Salem-Beverly game is special in its own way. He spoke about how special the rivalry is, and how the two cities and teams can celebrate it beforehand.
Both coaches introduced captains of the football teams and cheerleading squads, and recognized the achievements of their teams especially their senior leaders.
Following tradition, each Rotary club made a contribution to the other city's booster club.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion statement
At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.
Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.
We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.
In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
This annual party will be in the Bigelow Room at Tabernacle Church in Salem from 6 to 9 pm, and both Joe Amico and Adria Duijvesteijn will be cohosting the event. Be sure to sign up so the hosts can get an accurate head count. So far, Ollie will be bringing a selection of craft beers and Joe will be making his family's famous artichokes, but beware of the traditionally high amount of garlic in this Sicilian recipe. Please use the Federal Street entrance to the church.
