THE SPOKE
Official Newsletter of the Salem Rotary Club

This week at Rotary...

Once again we had a relaxed meeting this week. President Elect Claire Kallelis was at the podium and Gerrit ran the Technology.  Claire was very excited to ring the bell so much in fact that I think it was a 4-ding meeting.  Gerrit apologized for his Blair Witch camera work.

The Cranny Family sent a note thanking the club for the donation to Camp Sunshine in memory of Shiela. A brief auction was held for LifeBridge Gala tickets that the club received as part of our support for the event.  Nicole McLaughlin won the auction and will be heading to the soiree.

what the 4-way test means to me

In keeping with the new tradition of hearing from a Salem Rotarian at the start of each meeting, President Joe has created a segment for members to share how they connect to Rotary's Four-Way Test. Similar to the Why I Am a Rotarian from last year, the sharer from one week will choose who shares the following week.

Timothy Clarke took the center stage today to share some thoughts of his about Rotary, including reflections on how the club has evolved. He challenged Salem Rotarians to where pins out in public to identify ourselves and hopefully spark conversations!

ROTARIAN NEWS

  • John DiPiano's 12, soon to be 13 year old son has been searching for his passion and he may have found his place in the field of Aviation.  He took his first flight this weekend and got to man the controls for a time.
  • Mike McLaughlin was stung by a Red Paper Hornet and has been feeling the sting since Sunday.
  • Randy is participating is Smiles for America and is honored to be able to assist in the restoration of the smile of a 3 time Afghanistan veteran, ER Tech and EMT that served our country and it’s citizens.
  • Bruce Whear told a tale about tourists trusting him as he had his Paul Harris Pin on and therefore would never steer a stranger in the wrong direction.
  • Adria Duijvesteijn wrote a check to celebrate 7 years of wedded bliss to the one and only Ollie.  She is hopeful that their will be many more to come.
  • Leslie Levesque kids started at Essex Tech today and drove together to school.  Leslie was left waiving in the driveway as the kids pulled away from the curb.  Another right of passage at the Levesque Estate.
  • Jason Consalvo is thankful that school starts for the kids this week.  Kerry has been engaging with and parenting the boys for a straight 18 months and is looking forward to some peace and quiet.
  • Scott Grover was partying like a mad man.  It was a Birthday Palooza at the Grover’s.  Malcomb turned 1, Audrey turned 2, (Scott’s grandchildren) Amy (aka Missus Scott) celebrated and the Man, the legend Mr. Grover achieved 65 on August 26th.
  • Nicole McLaughlin is very thankful that her Brother-in-law received a stem cell transplant and is recovering well.
  • Carol Shapiro is thankful for all the veterinarians that are working hard to keep our pets happy and healthy.
