This week's meeting time was set aside for Committee Meetings. That being said, there is plenty to report from the Board of Director's meeting, which took place immediately before the Rotary meeting, as well as from club announcements.
The report from the Board of Directors included an update from Funds Allocation. Jason Consalvo noted two donations, a $500 donation to Citizens Inn for their upcoming Gala and a $250 donation to the funds for Una, the daughter of the owners of the Scarlett Letter Press who recently tragically passed away. Joe Amico also reminded Rotary members that they should notify Bill Henning or Rich Eisner if they would like to be excused from food billing in February.
We also have new dates and updates for upcoming Rotary events! See below for the details.
Finally, just a friendly reminder to club members that Happy Dollars can be mailed, added to your bill, or paid on the website through the donations page. Just be sure to toggle the dropdown menu to "Happy Dollars".
Hopefully you have sold your Calendars! Gerrit Bradley asked for members to bring their Calendar stubs back along with ONE CHECK made out to the Rotary Club of Salem. Stubs and checks can also be given to Rich Eisner. Bill Henning is hoping to bill Rotarians who have not yet paid around February 1!
At the Hawthorne Hotel, Claire Kallelis wants to remind all Rotarians that Salem's vaccine mandate went into effect on January 15. Rotarians each brought one proof of vaccination this week and everything went smoothly. We will continue with plated meals with some alterations going forward.
The Four Way Test
Jacob Segal forgot that he was speaking this week about what the Four Way Test means to him, yet he was still able to deliver some wonderful words. To Jake, the test itself is a reminder to help people whenever possible, as well as to be available to people in need. While we have always been great at responding to requests for help, Jake notes that there are many more people in our community who need assistance than we know about. We should do whatever we can to assist everyone who needs help, so in short the test itself is a reminder of the importance of community service! Kristen Armstrong will discuss her thoughts next week.

YOURS IN SERVICE
Liz Bradt was happy to report that the Lifebridge dinner went off well. The pizza arrived early and was kept warm, which allowed Liz to get a nice dinner nearby. It was almost too easy. Liz did thank everyone for their encouragement and suggestions!
ROTARIAN NEWS
Jason Consalvo had himself a nice adventure at SkyZone in Danvers. He took his kids there and the family had a great time. Obviously the highlight of the occasion was when Jason swung and fell of a ledge, which resulted in a cracked 7th rib. Unfortunately no video of the event has surfaced, though we can all agree that Jason is no ninja. Get well!
Kristen Armstrong actually does have a video of one of her sons falling down the front stairs thanks to her Ring camera. The video will be on America's Funniest Home Videos. Good luck! She also reported that she walked 63 miles during her stay at Disney. Great way to start the new year...
Bruce Whear just had to let everyone know of something he found funny- that Bill (Henning) sends the bills (money) to Rich. He also had a show last week and wanted to thank everyone who attended while braving the cold and/or skipping the Patriots' game, which was honestly probably for the best.
Bill Golden was excited that his grandchildren turned 13 this week. Congrats Bill!
Gerrit Bradley also had exciting birthday news, that his mother turned 78 on Monday. He also had a blast with some friends from Dartmouth who he met at Coolidge Reservation for a doggy adventure. The pooches had a blast, while Gerrit was disappointed that Captain Dusty's ice cream was closed.
Liz Bradt had a nice day trip to Singing Beach, where the waves were crashing, and southern New Hampshire, where she saw a nice double rainbow.

Cooking with Julie
February 4 at 6 pm on Zoom
Turn simple grocery store ingredients into restaurant-worthy dishes with former Salem Rotarian Juli Lederhaus. Juli will walk us through an Italian inspired menu that uses ingredients you likely have in your home and can be a meal in minutes for a busy weeknight. A grocery list, recipes, and wine selections will be sent out beforehand. The cost is $50 and a portion of the proceeds will go to the wonderful people at the Salem Pantry.

At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.
Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.
We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.
In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
