SPEAKER OF THE WEEK
This week's meeting celebrated Dick Lutts, who has retired from our Club after 41 years. Tim Clark and Rob Lutts (his nephew) spoke. Joe Amico was going to speak but was unable to attend.
Some fun facts:
Dick is 96 years old, and has been married to Betty for 72 years, and has four kids. He worked over 30 years at the Salem Laundry, and started Cabot Farm Enterprises in his “retirement” and he is a walking advertisement for the nutritional health supplements his company produces. He was a Rotarian for 41 years, and Tim joked we are holding the Presidency for him in four years for when he turns 100! The Salem Laundry Company once filled the 5th and 6th floor of the building where AJ King Bakery is now, and provided industrial laundry services for the north shore with 30-40 trucks making deliveries. When business changed, he and John Hooper built 15 laundromats when the industrial services declined.
Along with being an avid joke teller and people person, Dick understood that change was constant and was a mentor to Rob Lutts and many others. Rob mentioned five points Dick brought to bear:
Cash in must be greater than cash out!
How are you promoting your business?
When did you take charge of your life? (Asked to potential Rotary scholarship applicants)
You are what you think.
On worrying --JUST DON’T DO IT!
Everyone enjoyed some fine cake in Dick’s honor, and Dick and Betty got up and sang one of their songs they would sing to their kids to cheer them up.
Thank you Dick for your fellowship!
