This week at Rotary time was set aside for Committee Meetings. There was a Board of Directors meeting beforehand as well.
Assistant Governor Mike McLaughlin spoke briefly about the district grant for Tutu Desks. President Claire Kallelis reviewed some of highlights from the District Newsletter. One of the highlights this week was an article written by our own Jen Close about the recent Build-a-Bed event.
Funds Allocation announced that we are once again donating $500 to Salem Little League for a banner and team sponsorship. Discussions were also had regarding a donation to the Salem Charter School and the Salem Police.
The DEI and Membership Committee explained the focus on minimizing the attrition rate and having an new member addition rate 5% above the attrition rate. There was also an extended discussion on new kinds of models for membership similar to the Lynn Rotary Club, which has a Community Service membership. We also discussed various discounts. This conversation will be opened up to the club in general at the meeting on March 21. A kind reminder of the goals for everyone:
Invite at least one new person to a Rotary event or lunch
Attend at least one network event as a Rotary Representative
Participate in at least 1 Rotary activity
Choose your own adventure
This Week in Baseball, Liz Bradt won a free cup of coffee but gave it away. The writer of this article was too slow to react to a free cup of joe and missed out. Liz also spoke about getting a very interesting speaker to Rotary. Other winners include Gerrit, who is encouraging a local businessman to join Rotary. Jason yelled out that he invited the fire chief. We heard you just fine, Mr. Consalvo. Ho hum, Joe Amico also spread the gospel of Rotary by inviting four people to come to our evening meeting next week.
Speaking of which, there is an evening meeting next week!
In other news, ballots were on tables last week to vote for directors for the next Rotary year. Secretary Doc has been emailing absent Rotarians before we have a final count. A quick note that the Polar Plunge will not be taking place this year and we are in discussions to have an alternative event here in Salem.
You can now pay for your 50/50 Raffle tickets and Happy Dollars with your credit card. There will be a nominal fee for raffle tickets. Thanks to Doc for getting us one of those cool Toast devices!

ROTARIAN NEWS
Jason Consalvo yelled loud enough to be heard 3 to 4 hours up in Maine where coincidentally he and the family spent the weekend re-creating a family friendly YouTube video where they ate progressively hotter chicken wings.
Jen Close warned all Groveland drivers that her son will be on the road driving in the very near future.
Joe Amico went to a Crash Test Dummies concert with Jim, Jim's favorite band. They had a great time and said the venue was fantastic. He also explained how much cheaper it is to buy from the box office than online, like the Puddle's Pity Party coming up in Beverly at the Cabot.
Claire Kallelis admitted that her favorite band, Depeche Mode, is coming to Boston... on October 31.
Gerrit Bradley went skiing at Sugarloaf with a friend from Dartmouth. They did have fun, though his friend fell over his ski pole and there was a lightning storm.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.
Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.
We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.
In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
