Heidi Whear
Founder and President, Seaglass Village

Heidi Whear is Founder and President of Seaglass Village, a community of neighbors in the greater Marblehead, Swampscott and Nahant area helping each other maintain our dignity, independence, freedom and safety as we age in our homes.  She has been caring for our aging friends and family for decades through a variety of leadership roles in a home health agency, affordable senior housing communities, adult day health programs and dementia care programs in assisted living.  She trained health care professionals locally, regionally and nationally on dementia and caring for loved ones living with dementia.

Volunteerism is prominent throughout her life from being a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco, to being the first Volunteer Coordinator at My Brother's Table in Lynn.   She has served on non-profit boards of the Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, North Shore Hearing Foundation, the Swampscott for All Ages, and Swampscott Council on Aging.  Heidi joined Swampscott Rotary in 2003 and served as the President in 2007.  In 2009 she became a Marblehead Harbor Rotarian.  She has served on numerous Local and District committees and led an international Rotary mission trip to Honduras.  Serving on the steering committee for the creation of ElderAct, the first community-based Rotary International affiliated elderly volunteer club, was a particularly proud accomplishment.

Heidi holds a Master’s in Public Health from Boston University and a BA in Religion from American University. Heidi was born in Swampscott and is happily married to a Header, Bruce Whear.

Today, our local Aging-Friendly Initiative has led to the creation of the Seaglass Village.  Heidi is thrilled to bring her passion for serving elderly together with developing community through Seaglass Village.
