This week at Rotary...

Carolyn Shapiro

Salem Rotary President

We set aside time to catch up with one another at Rotary this week. There was no speaker. The big news is Stephen Marshall getting his welcome packet as a new Salem Rotarian. Welcome aboard! There was a Board of Directors meeting prior to Rotary. Funds Allocation presented several recommendations which the Board approved. There were three major donations, including:
  • $1000 Reach for College Gala for Salem Academy
  • $1000 SPUR North Shore for sponsorship and their annual Gala
  • $1000 to Cecropia Strong so they can continue their work
The Salem High School boys basketball team is back in the state tournament. Catch them on Friday, February 28 at 7 pm. Get your tickets here!

A brief update on our speaker, John Berry. After fainting at the event, John was taken to Salem Hospital. After a number of tests and consultations, John was released to go home late yesterday and is now taking it easy at home for a few days. John learned that dehydration was the most likely cause for the incident. We wish John well.

Click Here for a copy of the presentation about the Port of Salem. If you have questions, please reach out to Rinus and he will try to have them answered by our panel. We will try to reschedule the event at a later time.

Attached is a copy of the Celebrate Salem Awards nominations sheet. Please fill it out and get it back to us by next Monday the latest! For more information on the event please click here.

ROTARY NEWS

ROTARIAN NEWS...

  • Fred "Creed Bratton" deNapoli has been invited by District Governor Tom Hankard to be a part of a panel as a polio survivor.
  • Rinus Oosthoek is retiring from his role at the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Congratulations on your great work there!
  • Gerrit Bradley's sister travelled to Dillon, CO and sent him a picture of their Rotary clubs fundraiser about a clock falling into the water.
  • Husband of the Year Jason Consalvo ditched his wife to go skiing. Harrison was too sick to ski unfortunately.
  • Matt Ingram explained the Dillon, CO Rotary Club's fundraiser. They bet on when a lake will unfreeze to the point where a clock will fall in.
  • Liz Bradt went eagle "hunting" with Bart (I believe the word is "watching" unless they are up to something highly illegal but potentially profitable). A woman who looked like Dolly Parton, right down to the boots (there is a T there, folks, not a second B) who gave them great advice on where to see eagles on the Merrimac River.
  • Gary Stirgwolt should just get a membership. He went to see some live music in Gloucester and had great things to say about Kevin Levesque's band.
  • Leslie Levesque noted that Kevin's band will be playing at the Phoenix School's upcoming auction.
