This week at Rotary, Salem Rotarian Rinus Oosthoek led a discussion on all of the local and international causes that we are involved in, summarizing the list that he had emailed out to all Salem Rotarians earlier in the day. Members added Book Buddies and the cookout for Eliot Community Human Services to the list.
As a group, we brainstormed several other organizations that we would like to work with. Those groups include NAGLY, ROOT, HAWC, Mental Makeover, North Shore Animal Shelter, Citizens Inn, Salem Sound Coast Watch, and the Salem Beautification Committee. According to Rinus, there are no bad ideas. Unfortunately, Jason Consalvo was not in attendance to prove him wrong.
There was a Board of Directors meeting prior to the Rotary Club gathering. Funds Allocation recommended a sponsorship of North Shore Spur's Gala as opposed to the general fundraising campaign. The committee did approve $250 fundraiser for Marblehead Rotary Holiday Pops Concert on a December 14 which the Board agreed to. The Board also recommended that a representative from Cecropia Strong, a canine assisted group therapy for aphasia, speak at an upcoming Rotary meeting prior to responding to their fundraising request. The Fundraising Committee is moving forward with this year's calendar with a theme of Salem festivals.
The Salem Rotary welcomed two new members to the club, Yamilis Cruz and Amanda Thompson.
Yamilis Cruz was clearly excited to get her Rotary welcome packet
We were told to make sure that Amanda Thompson's shoes made it into the Spoke.

The three bedrocks of Rotary are our members, our Foundation that benefits the World, and spreading the word of all the good things we do to positive impact our communities.
Join us October 8, 2024, at the Four Points Sheraton in Wakefield, for an interactive session focused on these three important Rotary topics with information you can take back to your Club and use immediately, dinner with fellowship, and a keynote speech from PDG Tom Gump from Rotary District 5950 in Minnesota.
Tom has founded multiple innovative Rotary Clubs, is a member of RI's Membership Growth Committee, has spearheaded local and large international grants, and is currently Aide to our Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick.
Calling all Heroes! Save the date of Thursday, November 14, 2024, for the return of our Heroes Celebration.
As in past years, Clubs will nominate a person in their community who isn't always recognized for their extraordinary service to others.
Our event will be held at Danversport Yacht Club. Watch for more info to follow -- but be on the lookout for a deserving nominee. I encourage each Club to honor a Hero in your community.
Let's celebrate some great people, be astonished by their contributions, and celebrate the Magic of our Rotary Foundation.
