Mirjam and Philipp go through life together since 1998, they love spending time with their three children, they love exploring the great outdoors, camping, hiking and photography.

Philipp Haesler-Frey is a diplomat and lawyer who received a Rotary Scholarship in 2009/2010 for his Postgraduate studies at Harvard Law School. His wife Mirjam Frey Haesler, a lawyer and scholar herself, pursued a postgraduate law degree at Boston College Law School at the same time. Their year in Boston was one of the most amazing in their life so far, not only personally but also academically. Philipp and Mirjam have three children, Valeria age 8, Lucian age 6 and Emilia age 3. They lived in Washington DC until January 2021 and just moved to Brussels some weeks ago.

Philipp joined the diplomatic service in 2011. He is currently the deputy chief of mission of Switzerland to NATO in Brussels. Previously, he was the political counselor and acting head of the political affairs team at the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States. In this capacity, he was responsible for the protecting power mandate for the United States in Iran. Before that, he served on a first posting in Ghana, and held the position of the deputy head of section for international security in the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Before joining the foreign service and a first posting in Ghana, Philipp has worked for several years as a lawyer for a leading law firm in Switzerland and has taught administrative law at the University of Berne. Philipp has a PhD in law from the University of Berne and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. He is also admitted to the Berne Bar. Mirjam just started as a postdoctoral visiting scholar at Boston College Law School doing research on the Comparative Law of the Judiciary. She is also a lecturer at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Center in Accra, Ghana, working on Feminist Legal Theory and Transitional Justice. Previously, she was a postdoctoral visiting researcher at Georgetown University Law Center (GULC) in Washington, DC. For several years Mirjam also worked as an assistant judge at a first instance court of the Canton of Bern. She was also a research fellow at the University of Berne and co-taught a seminar on "Protection against Gender Discrimination in International Human Rights Law“. She also worked as a lecturer of law at the Commercial Association of Bern. Mirjam studied law at the Universities of Bern and Bologna and is admitted to the Berne Bar. She holds a PhD in law and wrote her thesis on the "Supervision of the Judiciary“.
